Visas should not be confused with ETAs. For some nationalities, a visa is still required to travel to the UK, and must be applied for at a British embassy or consulate. Travelers who do not require a visa are now required to travel with an ETA to the UK, for the tourism, business or study.
How do I apply for an ETA?
Apply online. To do this, you'll need to fill in your personal details on the form, and add several documents, including a copy of your passport and a passport photo. Be sure to respect the required format, and the clarity of your documents, to guarantee rapid processing.
How much does an ETA cost?
The ETA costs £10. However, as of April 09, the fare will increase to £16.
When should I apply?
It is advisable to apply at least three days before your trip.
How long is an ETA valid for?
An ETA is valid for two years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. You can use it for several trips to the UK.
When is ETA not enough?
The ETA does not allow you to :
- Working in the UK.
- Study for more than six months.
- Moving to the UK.
In these cases, you'll need a visa.
